Serendipity3 Sets New French Fry Record

Last modified on November 1st, 2021

Serendipity3 reopened last Friday after a year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As we reported over the weekend, titles to seven Guinness World Records have already been bestowed upon the legendary Upper East Side restaurant. And now, for $200, you can celebrate its eighth.

Chef Joe Calderone’s and Chef Fredrick Schoen-Kiewert’s latest creation – the “Creme de la Creme Pommes Frites” – was unveiled at the UES eatery at 225 East 60th Street as part of National French Fry Day on Tuesday, July 13. These golden fried slivers of Upstate potato now serve as the world’s most expensive French fries.

Here’s how PR Newswire describes them:

The record-breaking fries are thrice cooked in pure goose fat from Southwest France, made with the highest quality Chipperbeck potatoes. The potatoes are blanched in Dom Perignon Champagne and J. LeBlanc French Champagne Ardenne Vinegar. The fries are topped with shaved Crete Senesi Pecorino Tartufello and Black Summer Truffles from Italy and are seasoned with Guerande Truffle Salt. In addition, they are served with Mornay sauce made with Udder Cream, Black Truffle Butter, Gruyere Truffled Swiss Raclete, sprinkled with 23K edible gold dust and served on a Baccarat crystal Arabesque Plate.

Like Serendipity3’s other record-holding menu items, the crème de la crème of French fries must be requested in advance. Speaking of decadent fare, here’s what you can expect from Serendipity3’s other Guinness record holders.

The Le Burger Extravagant – a “white truffle butter-infused Japanese Wagyu beef burger … topped with James Montgomery cheddar cheese, black truffles and a fried quail egg [and] served on a gold-dusted campagna roll spread with white truffle butter …topped with a blini, creme fraiche and caviar.” With a price tag of $295.00, the Le Burger Extravagant was crowned the world’s most expensive hamburger in 2012 .

In 2014, the Quintessential Grilled Cheese was released for $214.00. It is made with a “very rare” Caciocavallo Podolico cheese grilled with white truffle butter slathered atop two slices of French Pullman bread baked with Dom Perignon champagne and edible gold flakes. Crowned the most expensive sandwich, this grilled cheese is “served with South African Lobster Tomato Bisque as a dipping sauce.”

For $69, you can devour 12-inches of “duck liver, truffle butter, truffle mustard and heirloom tomato ketchup” in the form of the award-winning Foot Long Haute Dog, which became the most expensive hot dog in the world in 2010. However, Guinness reported that the title was overtaken in 2014, when Seattle based Tokyo Dog $169 frank.

The world’s most expensive milkshake – the Luxe Milkshake – clocked in at $100 in 2018. Made from Jersey milk, Tahitian vanilla ice cream, Devonshire luxury clotted cream, Madagascar vanilla beans, 23 karat edible gold, grass-fed whipped cream, Le Cremose Baldizzone (Donkey Caramel Sauce), and Luxardo Gourmet Maraschino Cherries, it is “served in a milkshake glass coated in 3,000 crystals provided by Swarovski® and designed by Crystal Ninja.”

For the grand finale, crash your spoon into 2004’s most expensive dessert – the Golden Opulence Sundae. For $1,000, you can devour “three scoops of Tahitian vanilla ice cream covered in 23-karat gold leaf, as well as almonds, caviar and a sugar-forged orchid that takes eight hours to build. The dish is served in a $350 Baccarat crystal goblet (lined with more 23-karat gold leaf), with an 18-karat gold spoon on the side.” In 2007, the Frrrozen Haute Chocolate stole the title from this sister sundae with its 28 types of cocoa and five grams of edible 23-karat gold for $25,000.

We did the math. If diners wish to indulge in all of Serendipity3’s record-breakers, they should be prepared to shell out at least $1,878. Add $25k for Frrrozen Haute Chocolate.

As for future creations, Serendipity3 is looking forward to “creating even more over-the-top recipes in the future,” writes Guinness.
