The NYPD’s 19th Precinct shared a pretty alarming tweet on Wednesday, stating that an individual has already been arrested three times on the Upper East Side last week: once on Monday, once Tuesday, once on Wednesday.
The suspect was arrested each time for robbing a female victim. They were respectfully aged 27, 77 and 79.
“Victimizing 3 separate individuals over a 36-hour period—The career criminal we arrested on Monday, was back out Tuesday terrorizing NYers,” the tweet stated. “Our officers nabbed the suspect 𝘼𝙂𝘼𝙄𝙉 for snatching a 79-year-old’s wallet & robbing a 27-year-old female with a knife to her throat.”
The 19th Precinct listed the dates and locations of each arrest:
- Monday, July 26 at 1:19pm: arrest made at 1849 Second Avenue, between 95th and 96th Streets (this is the address of a Rite Aid store)
- Tuesday, July 27 at 10:22pm: arrest made on 80th and Second Avenue
- Wednesday, July 28 at 1:20am: arrest made on 78th and Third Avenue
The New York Post wrote about the Third Avenue incident (though the author did not mention that the suspect had gone for a hat-trick), describing a 27 year old woman who “fended off a knife-wielding robber” at the location mentioned above “around 9:45 p.m,” several hours before the arrest was made. The Post also noted that the “woman pepper-sprayed the robber before he grabbed her purse and fled on Third Avenue.”
We’ve reached out to the NYPD’s press office and have received confirmation that 25 year old male suspect Darnell Green was arrested on July 26 and July 27 (on charges of Grand Larceny) and on July 28 (on charges of Robbery in the Third Degree).
3 strikes & you’re out? Career criminal busted for the 3rd time in less than a month—this time for stealing a 77-yr-old’s purse.
After snatching her purse & fleeing our officers quickly located & arrested the suspect. Happy to report victim was not injured & her purse recovered. pic.twitter.com/2jhIAxWVjY
