In November 2020, nationalpolice.org wrote that “Dear Officer: #WeNeedYou” cards had started to show up on police cars around the country – along with hand-written notes – citing examples from states including Texas, Florida and Virginia.
On Sunday, Officer Gallard from the Upper East Side’s 19th Precinct was delighted to receive one.
Dear random passerby who handed Officer Gallard this card today:#WeNeedYou too! On behalf of all of us—thank you! Your small gesture meant more than you may ever know.
Sincerely,

Another sign of neighborhood support was shared by the 19th Precinct on the same day, with a tweet showing a chalk-written message in Carl Schurz Park.
Support sometimes comes from unexpected places—thank you UES! pic.twitter.com/j5gEB1szNy

While tensions between police departments and citizens remain high in NYC and throughout the country, the officers of the 19th Precinct are happy to have some support on the UES.
The cards are available at humanizingthebadge.com, where they’re sold in sets of 50 at $5 per card (along with other merchandise).
Why is the UES an “uexpected place” to expect police support?
BLM would be an unexpected place.
So nice to hear that our community supports our men and women in Blue who do so much to keep our neighborhood safe!
