A 91-year-old man was rushed to the hospital after being rescued from the rocks about thirty feet below Gracie Mansion at about 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The NY Daily News was the first to report this incident, which appears to have been an attempted suicide.

“It’s literally right behind Gracie Mansion,” an officer said on a dispatch call. “It’s the first set of rocks there. There’s a body on the rocks there; [he] does appear to be cold.”

“Does anyone have a visual of him going in? It might possibly be a floater,” one officer could be heard saying. Another officer replied, “We have a witness stating that he just fell [and] hit the rocks over here. I see he’s moving right now but I do notice there’s some blood.”

Officers from the 19th Precinct later stated that the elderly man did in fact jump over the edge, according to another call. “He is still alive but he is not in good shape.”

Video shared on Citizen shows a Harbor Unit approaching the coastline to make the rescue.

On Wednesday at about 1 p.m., NYPD officials told East Side Feed that the man was in critical condition.
