Basement Fire in 75th Street High-Rise

At the stroke of midnight on Thursday, FDNY officers arrived to the scene of a fire at 196 East 75th Street at Third Avenue. After just a few minutes, they found an electrical fire in the basement of the 20-story, 1961 co-op.

FDNY representatives tell us one hose line was stretched for protection, as the fire was extinguished with a dry chemical extinguisher. Con Edison was requested to the scene and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Over 20 units 78 firefighters were sent to the site.
