Bronx Man Jailed for UES Rape

The suspect wanted for raping an Upper East Side woman while she was sleeping last weekend has been caught, police say.

Donovan Murphy, 28, was arrested Wednesday on the Lower East Side. The Bronx resident is facing charges of rape, assault, strangulation, burglary and grand larceny.

It happened on Saturday, September 28 at about 3:40 a.m., when Murphy forcibly entered the 29-year-old victim’s building and apartment in the vicinity of 92nd and First Avenue. According to a report by AMNY, Murphy punched the victim in the face before raping her and fleeing the scene by foot.

A new report by AMNY states that Murphy stole several credit cards from the victim before fleeing the apartment, later using them to make purchases in the Bronx–which ultimately helped police catch him.
