An NYPD official told ESF there were multiple minor injuries, though the exact number was not immediately clear. All of the injured were transported to an area hospital.

“We have a few scaffold beams hanging down,” an officer can be heard saying on a dispatch call shared on Citizen.

Photos from the scene show the sanitation truck lodged right next to the Second Avenue subway station entrance. Police tape was put up around the area.

In a Reddit post, multiple Upper East Siders said they were wondering what all the sirens were about. One user described a close call: “Had this happened 2 seconds earlier I would’ve been squished!” the person wrote. “The sanitation truck somehow jumped the curb and crashed through the scaffolding. Turned around after hearing a huge bang — he also plowed through a couple of cars on 96th street along the way.”
