A fire broke out this morning in the basement of an Upper East Side mansion which sold in 2022 for $27.5 million.
FDNY officials say they received a call at 7:20 a.m. about a fire at 20 East 73rd Street, a four-story, single-family building between Fifth and Madison avenues.

A total of 12 units and 60 fire and EMS personnel were deployed to the scene. Videos shared on Citizen show the emergency response as sirens blared.
The FDNY deemed the fire under control at 7:49 a.m. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation.
According to Crain’s New York Business, the sale of 20 East 73rd Street was one of the largest mansion sales in 2022. The property, originally built in 1911, spans over 11,000 square feet and currently includes a basketball court on its lower level.

It’s unclear who owns the building as it was purchased through an LLC.
