Tuesday’s headlines were dominated by fairly vague reports of a man getting stabbed in the neck while standing on an Upper East Side subway platform. By the end of the day, police issued an alert with more information and surveillance footage of the suspect. The NYPD is hoping someone from the public will be able to assist them in identifying and locating the man.

According to the police report, the incident took place at about 3:28 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20. A 52-year-old man was standing on a northbound 6 train platform at the 96th Street station when the alleged perpetrator approached him and “struck him with an unknown object, causing a laceration to the right side of the neck.”
The unidentified culprit then fled the station and ran off in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
“Cops and sources” told the NY Post that the suspect had approached the 52-year-old to randomly start a fight with him.
Police describe the suspect as a male with dark complexion, last seen wearing a green shirt and red sweatpants. The NYPD has released the surveillance video below.
