Tim Morehouse Fencing Club recently expanded into a historic space on East 49th Street
Mastering the art of fencing takes dedication, discipline, and talented instruction. The globally recognized Tim Morehouse Fencing Club is thrilled to announce the recent opening of its newest location at 235 East 49th Street.
Olympic Silver Medalist Tim Morehouse is pioneering this new state-of-the-art fencing facility, fitted with cutting-edge equipment to ensure safety, enjoyment, and high performance.
TMFC is undoubtedly the epitome of fencing greatness. Their elite team already has a proven track record of developing champion talent–they’ve trained no less than six Olympians who competed in the Paris 2024 Olympics! Students at TMFC have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to train alongside the Olympians who are already coaching and practicing at the club, offering world-class instruction to fencers of all levels. TMFC intends to continue its tradition of excellence by producing even more nationally and internationally ranked competitive fencers.
For 40 years, the club’s new East Side home housed the Children’s Athletic Training School (CATS), a beloved institution that nurtured generations of young athletes. Before that, it was home to the Sports Training Institute, one of the first personal training gyms in the 1970s and ’80s, often frequented by Mayor Koch and numerous celebrities.
The space has sat empty since 2020, but TMFC has fully revitalized it, aiming to restore its status as a neighborhood staple. Today, TMFC honors the site’s historic legacy by making it a welcoming hub for anyone passionate about fencing.
The club offers everything from group classes to private lessons to tournament coaching, so instructors can help every young fencer exceed their potential. For even more chances to practice, students can enroll in special holiday camps during Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Diwali, winter break, and more. These fun camps make a fantastic introduction to fencing for beginners and are also great for more experienced students looking to refine their skills.
