The Bagel Mill Shuts Doors For Good

Bagel Mill Closes

(Google Maps)

Although the Upper East Side has no shortage of quality bagel shops, it seems we’ve lost one, as The Bagel Mill at 1700 First Ave (corner of 88th St.) appears to have closed down for good.

The Bagel Mill served the UES for about two decades.

Some of you may recall that they had a Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs in the back of the shop, or their 50% bagel discount after 4pm on Sundays, or their great hot and iced coffee service. Or maybe you remember the staff members who’d been there forever and knew your order when they saw your familiar face. Whatever you remember about this place, The Bagel Mill had been a dependable, consistent bagel shop for many years on the Upper East Side, and it will be missed.

There’s very little info available about why they’ve closed, as their Facebook page hasn’t been updated since February 2019, they aren’t on Instagram, their contact numbers just ring and ring, and any internet searches come up cold.

I am sure some of you are saying “we have plenty of great bagel shops in our neighborhood,” and rightfully so.  There is just something about losing a place like The Bagel Mill in our ‘hood that doesn’t sit right. It will be missed, but you can rest assured, we still have the best bagels in the world in our great city, home to our great neighborhood —the Upper East Side.
