‘Career Burglar’ Caught with Hunting Knife, Crack Cocaine, Stolen Dress

At about 12:58 a.m. on Sunday, December 29, NYPD officers observed a man with an empty hand truck entering and exiting 352 East 89th Street, a rental building located between First and Second avenues.

An officer stopped the individual, who claimed to be dropping off packages, but “upon further investigation,” items (a skirt and a dress) fell from his jacket.

A search was then conducted, and he was found to be in possession of a screwdriver, hunting knife, “five glassine envelopes of alleged crack cocaine, and a glass pipe with alleged crack cocaine residue,” police say.

Police arrested 47-year-old Juan Rios, currently homeless, on the following charges:

  • Burglary: Illegal Entry with Criminal Intent
  • Possession of Burglar Tools
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property
  • Criminal Possession of Controlled substance

“A career BURGLAR, on 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 for BURGLARY, and wanted for numerous BURGLARIES— caught red-handed BURGLARIZING an apartment building on East 89th Street!” the 19th Precinct wrote Friday on X (formerly Twitter). “When our overnight Public Safety Cops spotted the well known suspect in the act, they moved in fast to arrest him, AGAIN!”
