“As alleged, Gary Sanders purposefully targeted three older New Yorkers in age-based robberies, injuring two in the course of the attacks,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Taking advantage of vulnerable, older New Yorkers is unacceptable and we will continue to hold those accountable who cause them harm.”
Sanders’ targets included 74- and 80-year-old women and an 81-year-old man. The robberies took place on 75th and Park, 68th and Third and 83rd Street between Park and Madison. According to police reports filed at the time of each incident, the watches he stole had a collective value of $52,000 (one Rolex, one Omega, one Ebel).

Sanders was arrested on September 7. While under arrest, he “attempted to prevent police officers from accurately identifying him by giving them false personal information.” So in addition to facing two counts of Robbery as a Hate Crime (in the second and third degrees), he’s now also facing charges of False Personation.
At his October 1 arraignment, Sanders pled not guilty to all charges, according to public court records, which also indicate that bail was requested and set (a representative from the DA’s office tells East Side Feed that bail was set at $75K cash / $150K bond).
Sanders is due back in court on December 10.
