Nightmare Near Gracie Mansion: Suspect Indicted in Attempted Rape Case

30-year-old Quincy Brooks has officially been indicted

The suspect who was arrested for attempting to rape a 19-year-old woman near Gracie Mansion last month has officially been indicted, Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg has announced. Quincy Burks, 30, is being charged with Attempted Rape in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.

At about 1 a.m. on August 10, Burks followed his victim from Carl Schurz Park to East 90th Street near East End Avenue. There, he “threw her to the ground before pulling down her sweatpants and sexually assaulting her,” the D.A. report states. “A nearby doorman heard the woman screaming, grabbed a flashlight, and ran towards them. Burks fled, and nearby residents called 911. He was arrested on August 12, 2024, following an investigation by the NYPD’s Manhattan Special Victims Squad.

“As alleged, Quincy Burks tackled and sexually assaulted a young woman in a horrific late-night attack,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I am thankful for the doorman who intervened, our fellow New Yorkers who called 911, and the swift work of the NYPD.” Bragg gave an extra thank you to the Manhattan Special Victims Squad’s Detective Brittany Foy.
