Months after an Upper East Side optometrist was sucker-punched by an unknown assailant, it appears that law enforcement has a lead on the case: A New York financier and the son of a Florida judge.

The suspected assailant has now been identified as 28-year-old Eric Moneyham, according to the New York Post, which reported the update on Sunday. Moneyham seemingly left the office without incident after the attack, but allegedly fled to Bergen County, New Jersey, The Post reported.
“I never actually saw him,” Goldstein told The Post. “I was staring at a retinal image and had a patient in front of me. He came right behind me and hit me in the back of the head. The reason I know that is because I saw it on videotape afterwards.”
Moneyham, however, was eventually nabbed by law enforcement after breaking into a house in New Jersey, police said at the time. Tipsters identified him after Goldstein’s daughter, Tai, posted photos of his mug on TikTok.
Literally adding insult to injury, Moneyham eventually landed in Bergen County Jail, and on October 20, while getting a routine exam in lockup, proceeded to punch a staffer before hitting him roughly 40 more times, The Post says.

The Post added that the New York Police Department has not put a detainer on Moneyham for the Goldstein assault, merely naming him a “person of interest” in the case, which has been downgraded to a misdemeanor after initially being labeled as a felony.
“I would like this guy to be charged with the appropriate crime that he committed against me,” Goldstein told The Post, upset that his assailant was only charged with a misdemeanor. “If someone’s going to attack me, they should certainly have to face the consequences.”

As with other stories on this case, there’s no indication of why Moneyham targeted that optometrist’s office.
Of course, Alvin Bragg’s office downgraded this to a misdemeanor. Wouldn’t expect anything less.
