Woman Arrested for Biting Dog’s Head on East 86th Street

“Man bites dog” is arguably the most classic journalism joke of all time. But this past week, a woman on the Upper East Side took things a hair too literally when she was arrested for biting the head of her own pit bull.

Jillian Teixeira, 24, of the Bronx, was arrested in front of 150 East 86th Street at a little after 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, the NYPD told East Side Feed. She was arrested for violating New York’s Agriculture and Markets Law.

Section 353 of the law deals with animal cruelty, more specifically “overdriving, torturing and injuring animals.”

Teixeria, who has been arrested twenty times before this incident, was charged with a misdemeanor.

According to a complaint filed in Manhattan Criminal Court cited by News 12 New York, Teixeria’s actions caused the poor pooch to loudly yelp and also bleed from its head and ear.

As soon as police officers arrived on the scene, Teixeria not only admitted to biting the dog but also insisted this was something she did on the regular.

“That’s what I do,” she said, as quoted by the New York Post. “I bite my dog.”

A witness told the New York Daily News on Tuesday that “the dog got off the leash and ran” east on 86th St. [She] caught up with it and just started beating it and beating it. It was crazy.”

Previously, outlets such as the Daily News referred to Teixeria as a male; however, Teixeria is a trans woman who uses she/her pronouns.

During a Monday court appearance, Judge Michael Ryan ordered Teixeria held on $1 bail after prosecutors requested that she be held on $5,000 cash, $15,000 insurance company bond and a $15,000 partially secured surety bond, the Post reports.

Teixeria is scheduled to appear in court on Friday in relation to three other cases in Manhattan, the Post reports.
