Demolition permits have been filed for 150 East 91st Street, located between Lexington and 3rd Avenues, Patch first reported.
Currently a six-story low-rise building, it was purchased for $29.5 million by Redeemer Presbyterian Church in August 2020. The 25 rental tenants had vacated the site before the purchase was complete.

A representative from the church says they plan to construct a new ten story, 150 foot tall building with a 600-seat sanctuary, a 300-person fellowship hall and up to 17 classrooms.
Redeemer Presbyterian is working on massively expanding its footprint throughout NYC over the next ten years, and its first phase – a four year period which it describes as “The first phase toward tripling the body of Christ in New York” – is estimated to cost $80 million. Broken down, this price tag includes “planting” 87 new churches across New York ($15 million); recruiting new leaders ($20 million); and purchasing and developing its most recently acquired Upper East Side real estate ($45 million).
“We envision an East Side home for our congregation to worship, mark milestones of weddings and funerals, and invite kids of all ages to learn about Jesus,” the church states on its website. “But just as importantly, we envision a place for the city—for serving the poor, for welcoming neighbors into artist events, hosting bar mitzvahs, city council meetings, and more, so as to physically manifest what it looks like to be a ‘church not for ourselves.’”
Redeemer is aiming for construction to be complete by 2023. Updates will be provided here.
