The Central Park Conservancy has announced that its work to restore the Naumburg Bandshell, located mid-park at 71st Street at the northern end of the Mall, is now complete. While efforts to improve the outdoor stage have taken place in the past, the Conservancy states that “[This] restoration was far more comprehensive than any past Conservancy efforts.”

The project included restoring the Bandshell’s structure, replacing its roof, reconstructing its arch and cornice, and cleaning and repairing its limestone masonry and cast stone ceiling; reconstructing the stage; replacing and improving the interior and exterior lighting; renovating the interior; replacing old architectural features; and repairing the steps.
The Naumburg Bandshell was built in 1923, and has served as a concert venue since its inception.
Now that it’s open for the first time since 2019, outdoor music can be enjoyed once again at the iconic Central Park venue.
On Monday, June 28 at 7pm, a free Italian opera at the Bandshell will feature musicians from The Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, The Juilliard School, The New School, and Manhattan School of Music.
