On Friday, Alice’s Tea Cup announced the forthcoming closure of its Chapter II location at 156 East 64th Street off the corner of Lexington Avenue– “After nearly two magical decades.”

In an Instagram post, the business – which was purchased by Jeni He in 2024 after facing closure amid mounting debts in excess of half a million dollars – announced that its last day operating at the space will be May 25, giving patrons “plenty of time to come by and experience the magic, again!”

The 2024 sale was a long time coming, as the original owners, sisters Lauren and Haley Fox, discussed offloading the business years earlier as challenges from the pandemic and other factors arose.

Friday’s post mentioned a new location in the works, but no specific details were included.

“We are already cooking up something special behind the scenes, and we anticipate opening a brand new location that will bring even more magic, whimsy, and wonder to your teatime traditions!”

The post also mentioned a “soon to launch, brand new online shop.”

Alice’s Tea Cup’s original shop (Chapter I) is located at 102 West 73rd Street (between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues) and does not appear to be closing.

We’ve reached out to the business for more info and will update this article when we know more.
