Just a few years after opening their doors on the Upper East Side, the owners of The Migrant Kitchen have announced the end of their run.
“Goodbye (for now), Upper East Side,” the Latin and Middle Eastern restaurant wrote on its Instagram page on Tuesday. “The Migrant Kitchen is migrating! We can’t wait to announce where we will be next. Until then, Upper East Siders, we have you covered. Our Upper West Side location is still within your delivery zone…so keep the empanadas coming right to your door!”

They wrapped up their announcement by thanking the UES “for all the love and support over the years,” which there have been three of; the restaurant first opened in November 2021 at 1433 First Avenue (between 74th and 75th streets).

Their UWS location, at 157 Columbus Avenue (at 67th Street), opened a few months later. They can also be found by the Heckscher Ballfields in Central Park near 65th Street.
Since the business launched in 2019 as a catering company, founders Daniel Dorado and Nasser Jaber have prioritized giving back to the community. They started by serving meals to healthcare workers during the pandemic, and according to the restaurant’s website, they’ve “served nearly 4 million meals to food insecure communities across NYC.”
Some customer favorites at the Upper East Side location included their fried chicken sandwich, empanadas and salmon bowls.
We reached out to The Migrant Kitchen to see if they’re looking for a new location in the neighborhood. Their response: “Hi! We have a lot of exciting things keeping us busy at the moment, but we’d absolutely love to return to the UES in the future!”
