At about 10 p.m. on Christmas, police received a call about a man who’d been struck by a train near the station at 77th and Lexington Avenue.

“Officers arrived on scene and observed a male on the roadbed with trauma about the body inside the tunnel between 68th and 77th Street,” NYPD officials told East Side Feed. “EMS responded and pronounced the male deceased on scene. There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing. The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification.”
According to a follow up report by the New York Post, the deceased was a 49-year-old man who had been smoking between subway cars before being “crushed to death after he somehow fell onto the tracks on the Upper East Side.” The report adds that the man had fallen onto the tracks of the northbound 6 line.
