A suspect has just been arrested for his involvement in a fatal auto incident which took place on the Upper East Side more than six months ago.
Darrell Lopez, 60, was arrested Tuesday for fatally striking 78-year-old Virginia Renta on Thursday, June 13 at about 2:30 p.m. Lopez is facing charges of Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian and Failure to Use Due Care.
At the time of the incident, Renta was crossing the intersection at 93rd and Second Avenue. Lopez was driving a 2023 Nissan Pathfinder and attempted to turn left onto Second Avenue, at which point he struck her.

Police said at the time that Renta had been crossing from the southwest to the southeast corner “with the pedestrian signal in her favor.” Lopez remained at the scene.

Renta was a resident of Holmes Towers, a NYCHA building at 1780 First Avenue (at 93rd Street)–just one avenue away from the scene of the fatal incident. Lopez, according to police, is a resident of the same building.
According to public court records, Lopez pleaded not guilty at his January 14 arraignment and was released with non-monetary conditions. He’s due back in court on April 1.
