Upper East Side Doctor Killed in Private Plane Crash

Dr. Ruben Cohen of Park Smiles NYC, a dental practice on 93rd and Park Avenue – and David Zara, a veteran pilot – were tragically killed in a plane crash last weekend. The accident took place near Aspen.

Park Smiles notified its followers of Cohen’s passing in a Tuesday, July 6 Facebook post.

“Dear Friends and Family,

“It is with much sadness that we write this letter to let you know that Dr. Ruben Cohen was tragically killed in a plane accident over the weekend. We will all feel his loss.

“We will continue to provide care at the highest standard to all of our patients.

“In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Miracle Corners of the World (MCW). MCW Global was an organization very close to Dr. Cohen’s heart. Their core values include integrity, compassion, accountability, responsibility, and excellence. We will all miss him.

“Yours truly,

“The Park Smiles NYC, Park Smiles Southampton, & Park Avenue Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Team”

Dr. Cohen’s family requested that a fund to support MCW’s oral health care programs in Tanzania be created. The donation page states that Cohen “played a significant role in introducing oral health programs to MCW back in 2001,” and that today, it has provided care to over 10,000 Tanzanian children.
