Volunteer & Connect with an Older Neighbor this Winter – Sunday, January 26!

With its crisp temperatures, the winter season can be a source of loneliness and isolation for many, particularly the older adult population. Did you know that nearly one-fourth of adults aged 65 and older are considered to be socially isolated and that loneliness increases one’s health risks?

On Sunday, January 26, New Yorkers will have the chance to help warm and brighten an older neighbor’s day with DOROT—a social service agency dedicated to alleviating social isolation among older adults.

DOROT is seeking volunteers for its annual Winter Package Delivery, where volunteers deliver a package of goodies to an older adult and connect for a friendly visit in person or over the phone.  This is a simple way to get involved, give back to your community, and make someone’s day.

“It was wonderful! The visit from these two remarkable young women was like a breath of fresh air. Cannot thank them and DOROT enough!” – Sheila (DOROT older adult)

“I thoroughly enjoyed the Thanksgiving dinner and am blown away to receive such a generous and delicious gift. I very much appreciate the thoughtfulness and effort.” – Kate (DOROT older adult)

Those who are interested can register here (by Jan. 22) and pick up a Winter Package at one of two locations:

  • Moise Safra Center at 130 East 82nd Street
  • DOROT at 171 West 85th Street
