S.A.M. New York, the local outpost of the international math enrichment program Seriously Addictive Mathematics, has opened at 1161 First Avenue (between 63rd and 64th streets). The program works with children ages 4 to 12 using the Singapore Math method, a problem-solving approach that moves students from concrete objects to pictures to abstract numbers, with individualized learning plans and classes capped at five students. New families can take a free placement assessment to find a starting level before enrolling. Thanks to Ilya Kapovich for the tip.
Evolve Gyn, a new membership-based gynecology practice from Dr. Kameelah Phillips, opened on October 8 at 162 East 78th Street (between Lexington and Third avenues), on the third floor. Phillips, a board-certified OB/GYN who spent nearly two decades practicing at Calla Women’s Health, is running the office as a concierge practice in partnership with Monarch, a company that backs membership-based women’s health clinics. Rather than billing through insurance, members pay an annual fee in exchange for a smaller patient panel, appointments that typically run 30 to 60 minutes, same-week scheduling, and after-hours virtual urgent care. The practice centers on gynecology, perimenopause and menopause, sexual health, and midlife preventive care, from hormone therapy and fibroid management to bone, metabolic, and cardiovascular screening. Phillips has discussed women’s health on the Oprah Podcast and The Drew Barrymore Show.
Cotton On, the Australian casual-apparel retailer, has leased a roughly 6,600-square-foot space at 1149 Third Avenue (between 66th and 67th streets), according to a CBRE retail market report. The brand is known for affordable basics and casual clothing for men and women, along with accessories. The deal was one of several that made the Upper East Side the borough’s busiest neighborhood for retail leasing last quarter, per the same report.
