After a year off due to the pandemic in 2020, Global Citizen is back and bigger than ever. The annual music festival that focuses on uniting the world to defend the planet and defeat poverty will continue on Central Park’s Great Lawn on September 25; and for the first time ever, is expanding beyond the city with events planned across 6 continents, for a truly global, 24-hour affair.
Global Citizen Live 2021 will feature shows in Lagos, Paris, London, Los Angeles, Rio, Seoul and Sydney. Each city will feature its own specially curated lineup of artists, celebrities and world leaders, with the events broadcast live across major TV networks that include ABC, BBC, FX, iHeartRadio, Hulu, YouTube, TIME, Twitter and more.
The NYC lineup performing on the Great Lawn this year includes British rock band Coldplay, who’ve sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, and 2020 Grammy sensation, Billie Eilish, who swept the ‘The Big 4,’ winning Best New Artist, Album, Record and Song of the Year honors. Eilish is the first woman to achieve such a feat and no sophomore slump is in sight with her brand-new album, “Happier Than Ever,” delivering once again. Giddy up!
Other artists performing in NYC include Lizzo, Jennifer Lopez, Meek Mill and Shawn Mendes, with special guest performances by Alessia Cara, Burna Boy, Cyndi Lauper, Jon Batiste and Lang Lang.
Those interested in attending can purchase VIP tickets starting at $150 here. The other option is to take action and win free tickets by downloading the Global Citizen app (Apple/Android). Once you join, you can take actions by signing petitions, contacting political leaders and taking challenges. The more actions you take, the more points you’re awarded, and the better chance you have of scoring tickets.
In order to gain entrance to Global Citizen Live, those attending must be fully vaccinated no later than two weeks before the show. Global Citizen security will be checking every attendee’s vaccination card, whether that be the original, a photocopy, or a photo of the card upon arrival.
Previous Global Citizen Festivals have featured musical legends including, but not limited to, Neil Young, Carrie Underwood, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, The Foo Fighters and Sting. Leonardo DiCaprio, Forest Whitaker and Natalie Portman, amongst others, have taken the mic to discuss global issues, and President Biden and Michelle Obama have also taken part as global leaders. Expect surprises a plenty this year, per usual.
