Bluestone Lane’s Fifth Avenue location (Google Maps)
Bluestone Lane is opening another location on the Upper East Side, and it’s moving into a restaurant space that only just went dark.

The Australian-inspired coffee chain is taking over 1556 Second Avenue, between 80th and 81st streets, according to Endri Qalliu, the chef and co-owner of Adria, the coastal Italian restaurant whose closing we reported on Wednesday. (A job listing at the address was also posted on Snagajob.)Bluestone Lane already has a presence in the neighborhood with its café at 1085 Fifth Avenue (between 89th and 90th streets), at the Church of the Heavenly Rest. Per the company’s website, that location has indoor table service and outdoor seating along Fifth Avenue, with a menu built around all-day “brekkie.” That includes the chain’s Avocado Smash, made with sheep’s milk feta, heirloom tomatoes and soft herbs on toasted multigrain, along with thick-cut toast served with Vegemite and butter. On the coffee side, there’s the flat white, which the menu calls “an Australian classic,” and the Magic, described as a stronger, less diluted spin on a flat white.
We don’t yet know whether the Second Avenue location will offer the same menu, and we don’t have an opening date.
The space has seen some turnover. Adria opened there in 2024, taking over for Gray Hawk Grill.
As for Adria, it may not be gone from the neighborhood for good. “We are currently exploring opportunities to relocate Adria within the neighborhood and hope to have more to share in the future,” Qalliu told us in a message. “At this point, however, we don’t have a specific timeline or additional details to announce.”
