An interesting new eatery is about to open—or, depending on when you’re reading this, has just opened—at 1712 Second Avenue (between 88th and 89th streets). Soup-N-Burger, a diner-style spot that describes its extensive menu as ‘American Cuisine,’ has taken over the space previously occupied by Cilantro (and Cascalote Latin Bistro before them).

An employee confirmed to East Side Feed that the restaurant will have its soft opening on Monday, December 30, and the space appears ready to welcome customers. The dessert case is filled with goodies, and a jolly Christmas tree and poinsettias adorn the front window. A sign on the door advertises open positions with the “exciting opportunity” to work there.
Soup-N-Burger has one other location which opened in Brooklyn’s Sheepshead Bay neighborhood in 2017. The menu, which will be identical at the UES outpost, includes the restaurant’s namesake soups and burgers, along with an assortment of breakfast items, salads, smoothies, wraps, shakes, ice creams, other desserts, and a variety of cocktails. The BK location also has a hookah service; it’s unclear if this will be available at the UES spot.

There is a wide array of beef burgers, including the SNB special, which comes with guacamole, cheddar cheese, ‘SNB sauce,’ and a pickle for $14.99. For those seeking something other than red meat, they also offer a handful of alternative ‘burgers,’ including options like turkey, chicken, fish and falafel. Soups are priced at $12.99 and all come with bread. They have classics like tomato and chicken noodle, as well as lentil, French onion and others.

Reviews are definitely mixed. The Brooklyn location has a Google score of 4 out of 5 stars, while they’re struggling with a 3.2 on Yelp. Also, while this doesn’t specifically reflect the quality of their food, they somehow have over 45,000 Instagram followers but virtually no engagement.
While Soup-N-Burger will open in the late afternoon on their first day, the restaurant’s regular operating hours will be 7 a.m. till 11 p.m. daily. Delivery or pickup will be available through Seamless and other services or by calling the restaurant at (212) 722-4242. They’ve also created a separate Instagram account for the UES location.
