This week, popular New York-style pizzeria Lucia announced that it will be opening its long-awaited UES outpost at 1571 Third Avenue (between 88th and 89th streets) on Thursday, January 2.

The location–Lucia’s third–was originally slated to house the latest Taïm falafel franchise.

“A moment of gratitude for all the support we’ve received since our inception on Avenue X,” Lucia wrote on its Instagram page back in August, when they originally announced their uptown expansion. “Grateful to announce will (sic) be opening our third Lucia on the Upper East Side this winter.”

Lucia opened its first location in South Brooklyn in 2022, quickly becoming a go-to destination for slice harvesters across the city. After a coveted Pete Wells review in the New York Times, Lucia expanded to Soho the following year.

“The menu’s pleasures are real,” Wells wrote. “One white pie, the salsiccia, is spread with smooth white islands of whipped ricotta surrounded by pork sausage that’s been roasted into crisp brown pebbles — not the usual gray marbles that roll off the crust when you pick it up.”

“Gaining space in Manhattan brings us to an even newer world of accessibility for people who feel Sheepshead Bay is a little hard to get to,” owner Salvatore Carlino told Eater when they first expanded to Manhattan. “I’m just trying to focus on bringing a solid slice and price point to Soho and Tribeca.”

Some of Lucia’s popular pies include their vodka pizza and caramelle piccanti pizza—the latter topped with hot cherry peppers, pepperoni, and Mike’s Hot Honey—while their garlic knots remain a consistent favorite. View the full menu at lucia.pizza.
