Mia’s Brooklyn Bakery
Mia’s Brooklyn Bakery officially opened its doors on Friday at 1573 Third Avenue (between 88th and 89th streets)–one of the retail spaces in the former Wankel’s building.
The new spot, which we first announced would be opening on the UES over a year ago (though we were off by a few blocks), is the bakery’s third location, adding to its Times Square and Downtown Brooklyn outposts.
Per Mia’s website, the bakery began when two families were discussing their love of desserts over dinner. “Later, over a fantastic baklava, they lamented about how hard it was to find exceptional classic desserts anymore,” the website’s ‘about’ section reads. “Not extravagant over-the-top creations, but the traditions perfected.”
Mia’s is focused on “classic desserts,” serving an assortment of cakes and pies, cupcakes and cake pops, tarts and cookies, sweet and savory croissants, muffins, cannolis and puddings. The menu also includes ten gelato flavors and six milkshakes, hot and cold coffee drinks, hot chocolate, smoothies and tea.
There’s quite a bit of cake to choose from, including twelve different cheesecakes (New York style) and a strawberry shortcake which appears to be a major crowd favorite (at least at the BK location).
Some other big sellers include Mia’s Napoleon, Blackout and Oreo cakes; Tres Leches cupcakes; and their bread pudding.
This page has more info about the UES location, including the full menu.
