We first reported that a new restaurant would be opening at 1022 Lexington Avenue (at 73rd Street) back in April 2023 (about a week before the building caught fire).
At the time, Nick Pashalis and Nick Tsoulos–the owners of restaurants including Avra and Anassa Tavern–said they were planning to renovate the space to open a new Italian restaurant.

At Tuesday evening’s Community Board 8 meeting, we learned that the space is actually being taken over by Elena Ristovski, who has no affiliation with either Nick. Ristovski is the owner of Cibo e Vino and Marlow Bistro (Italian and Mediterranean restaurants on the Upper West Side) and Fandi Mata, a Brooklyn restaurant which “delivers a new take on artisanal, global cuisine inspired by the vast Mediterranean region.”

Ristovski tells us her new UES restaurant will be called Marlow East, though the menu won’t be identical to its west side counterpart (they’re still finalizing it).
Ristovski says “Marlow East will be an upscale, modern take on a classic American cuisine [which] will serve as an homage to New York City, seamlessly combining the city’s allure with a whimsical yet thoughtfully curated food and beverage selection.” She’s hoping to open by the spring.

The last restaurant to occupy 1022 Lexington Avenue was Casimir & Co, a French restaurant which closed around the end of 2017.

The space comes with three levels: a cellar (which is just a kitchen, storage and office); the ground floor, which will come with seven two-person tables and a bar; and the second floor, which will come with 18 tables, 48 seats and an additional bar.
There were some concerns regarding the restaurant’s proposed hours as Ristovski and her legal representative mentioned staying open until midnight on weekdays and 1 a.m. on weekends. Ristovski said they’ve never had any issues at their other restaurants, all of which are in “highly residential areas” while also pointing out that “these hours are all out hours, so these are the hours by which all patrons have to be out. This is not last seating.”
We’ll provide updates once we know more.
