Parents and supporters are rallying around a Pre-K teacher at P.S. 158 (1458 York Ave) who was recently displaced due to a devastating fire that hit East 91st Street late last month.

“Our amazing Pre-K teacher, Jessica Northrop, lost her home in the fire that devastated 91st Street last week,” a GoFundMe campaign set up for Northrop says. “In true Ms. Jessica fashion, she focused on the positives that everyone was safe; however, her home and all belongings have been lost.”
Since it was posted on Tuesday, the fundraiser has already raised in excess of $17,000 out of a $30,000 goal.

“While money can’t replace the memories, sentimental and physical objects lost, we all want to help get her back on her feet as she will need to find new housing and basic essentials. Even after losing everything, Ms. Jessica leads with positivity and love towards our kids,” the GoFundMe says.
Organizer Rebecca Isquith, whose son is a student of Northrop’s, told East Side Feed that the teacher informed her and another parent in the class that the blaze had completely gutted her home.
(Isquith tells us that Caitlin Zuckerman, whose name is listed on the GoFundMe campaign, is Northrop’s daughter.)
“This personal information does not need to be shared with us but it shows the partnership we have as class parents and her dedication as an educator,” Isquith said in an email on Wednesday.

The three-alarm fire at the Carnegie Hill co-op at 160 East 91st Street (between Third and Lexington avenues) broke out on January 27 after 12 p.m. About 150 firefighters worked to put out the blaze.
“After the fire on East 91st Street in Manhattan, the American Red Cross has registered five households (six adults) for emergency assistance, including temporary lodging and financial assistance,” a Red Cross representative told East Side Feed following the incident. “Additional impacted residents were able to self-relocate with friends and/or family.”
