23 Story Building to Replace 83rd Street Low-Rise

A real estate developer has filed plans to construct a 23 story, 106 unit residential building at 250 East 83rd Street, between 2nd and 3rd Avenues Crain’s reports. (The alternate address of this building is 1597 Second Avenue).

The Torkian Group purchased the site, which is currently home to a four story building with 23 apartments and Italian restaurant Erminia, in 2005 for $8 million.

The report from Crain’s states that the finished building is projected to be 272 feet tall and 171,000 total square feet, with SLCE Architects the architect on record.

The Torkian Group’s website states the company is privately owned and family operated, with other NYC projects including Solari at 42 West 33rd Street, Greenwich House Lofts at 110 Greenwich Street in the Financial District, The Cameo NYC at 311 West 50th Street, and The York at 488 Seventh Avenue, between 36th and 37th Streets.
