Shared, Short-Term Rental Company Buys East 90th Street Building

Aya New York – a company offering furnished rooms for rent – has purchased 240 East 90th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Ave) for $14.9 million, according to a Commercial Observer report.

“Our mission is to create comfortable, spacious, and high-quality serviced living arrangements for individuals looking to live flexibly,” reads Aya’s mission statement.

From doing a search through Aya’s properties – which can be found in the East Village, Midtown, Harlem, Williamsburg, Bushwick and Bed-Stuy – the minimum stay appears to be one month. While the company did not specify exact plans for its new Upper East Side building, it’s fair to expect quite a bit of turnover.

As of writing, there’s one unit available for rent at 240 East 90th Street – a large two-bedroom posted on Streeteasy. Nothing at the building is posted on Aya’s website, though.

Aya’s tenants are required to pay the first month of rent, a one month security deposit, the cost of utilities, and a $200 membership fee – which “includes the perks of a move-in ready home such as bedding, kitchenware, cleaning, and our operations team to ensure all Aya members have a great stay with us. Aya members also have access to our community events, where they can meet our amazing network of other Aya members.”

The East 90th Street property, sold to Aya by Sackman Enterprises, comes with 25 apartments, most of which have two bedrooms.
