Business Openings: Steps Dance Studio, Yellow Submarine Salon, ColorPop Workshop

Steps Dance Studio has opened at 340 East 64th Street (between First and Second avenues), which until recently was home to ChaShaMa, an organization which finds unused space for artists (thanks to Ilya Kapovich for the tip). “Steps Dance Studio [is] a branch of Steps Dance School” which “offer[s] classes for all ages, from 1.5 to adult in a variety of styles including: ballet, tap, musical theater, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, and yoga,” according to its website. The opening was announced in a Jan. 25 Instagram post. 

Yellow Submarine Salon has opened at 1403 Third Avenue at 79th Street. This is the kids hair salon’s second location, adding to its original spot at 512 Columbus Avenue at 84th Street. The salon “offer[s] non-toxic hair care for children of any age,” according to its website, as well as “private sensory sensitive haircut session[s] designed to create a calm and comfortable environment for kids who may have sensory sensitivities or anxiety related to haircuts.” These particular cuts are priced at $80 and are available on weekend mornings. ColorPop Workshop is slated to open this month at 1289 Madison Avenue near 92nd Street (h/t @uesthings). “Created out of the need for a space where kids can develop their art skills, ColorPop is a place where aspiring young artists can take private lessons, join open studio, or grow their art education through semester-long classes and workshops,” according to the company’s website. Mediums include painting, sculpture, knitting, collage and cartooning, with after-school classes available for kids ages 4-12. You can also “program your own class with up to 12 children,” and the forthcoming business will also be available to host birthday parties. A specific opening date has not been specified, but ColorPop announced that it will be opening this month in a Jan. 29 Instagram post.
